The Pierre Governor boys and girls basketball teams couldn’t match the Washington Warriors on Thursday as the both teams fell as the girls lost on the road 70-20 and the boys fell at home 68-53.
The Governor girls were outsized and outmatched in Sioux Falls as the Warrior bigs had no problem rolling through the Govs holding a 21-5 lead at the end of the first and a 44-12 lead at the break. The Govs fall to 6-8 on the season but are still holding on to the ninth spot in the AA standings.
The Governor boys used a quick run in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-19 after being down 21-10 to open up the quarter. However, an 8-0 spurt gave the Warriors the comfortable lead back and the Governors couldn’t get the momentum all on their side in the 15 points loss. Bennett Dean and Jackson Edman each had 11 to lead the Governors while Houston Lunde chipped in 10. Eli Williams led all scorers as he dropped in 23 for Washington as they stay perfect, now 11-0.
Both teams will face Brandon Valley on Saturday, the girls will host and the boys will be in Brandon. Both games tip-off at 5:00 with the boys game on the air on Today’s KCCR and todayskccr.com while being available to watch on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
