The Pierre Governor basketball teams will face the Mitchell Kernels on Tuesday as the boys will travel to Mitchell while the girls will host the Kernels.
Both teams faced Yankton over the weekend as the girls picked up a road win while the boys fell at home. Pierre girls are now at 6-6 but sit in tenth place in the AA standings. Tonight they face the number two team in AA as the Kernels come into the contest at 10-2 with their only losses to Huron and Thunder Basin, Wyoming. Mitchell has won seven straight games after the lost to Thunder Basin including beating the Governors by 10, 46-36 back on Jan. 14 at the Corn Palace.
The Governor boys are facing the number three team in AA as the Kernels are 10-1 with its only loss coming to Class A Sioux Falls Christian by 10. The Kernels have won three straight since then including a win over Brandon Valley by 23. The Govs have lost back to back games since winning three in a row and are currently in 13 in the standings. This is the second game of three against the top three teams in the state.
