PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Legislature set aside three-million dollars for repair and restoration work inside the South Dakota State Capitol. Last week, the Capitol Complex Beautification and Restoration Commission saw a presentation about how that money will be put to work. Deputy State Engineer Christine Day says approximately three-to-five hundred thousand would go to restore damaged plaster in the Capitol…
Day says a portion of the appropriated money would make similar repairs in the House and Senate lobbies…
One-point-three million of the three-million would go for repairs and restoration of the dome and barrel vault…
New lights are proposed for up inside the dome to allow more of the artwork in the dome to be seen. Work on the dome is expected to begin following the 2026 Legislative session.
