Two area coaches would represent Region 3 for Coach of the Year as Brian White, head coach of the Sully Buttes boys team would win coach of the year, while Terry Becker, assistant for the Pierre girls team, would be the girls assistant of the year.
The Sully Buttes Chargers were just one win away from returning to the state tournament since winning the SoDak 16 in 2020, prior to Covid shutting down the state tournament. The Chargers dominated Region 6B to a tune of a 17-5 record and beating out second place by almost four seed points. The Chargers were seeded ninth in SoDak 16. Sully Buttes had an excellent year with just three seniors on the team, but had a first team All-State player in Wesley Wittler.
Becker has been a part of the Pierre Governor girls coaching staff for the last several years after coaching the boys team. Becker won a state basketball title back in 2013. The girls team has been to three state tournaments in a row including a state runner-up in 2023. Head Coach Kirk Beebout has always been one to praise and acknowledge how great his coaching staff is from top to bottom and Becker now is the assistant of the year for Region 3.
