
FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, Fort Pierre National Grasslands are planning 15 prescribed burns across Jones and Lyman County in April. The burn areas include the Stockton North Pasture, Sheriff East Pasture, Far West Pasture, Glen Pasture, Richland East Pasture and Richland Wildlife Area, Sletto Home and Sletto Three Pasture and Horsetheif West Pasture in Jones County. Lyman County burns will be conducted at Dry Hole number Three, Chester Middle Pasture, Kennedy Wildlife Area, Sioux East Pasture, Ditch Creek West South Pasture, Cut Off Spring Pasture, Medicine Creek Three Pasture and the American Creek North East and Corral Flat Alfalfa Pastures. The areas may close to the public for several days for public safety. Drivers are asked to slow down and use headlights while driving near fires. The burning is subject to weather conditions. The burns will continue through the spring as weather permits.
