PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Hughes County judge has permitted two statements allegedly made by a Rapid City murder defendant in to his upcoming trial. Two other statements were rejected by Sixth Circuit Judge Christina Klinger during a motions hearing in the murder case against 26 year-old David Shangreaux Jr. All four statements Shangreaux allegedly made came from interviews with young women who were playing games with Shangreaux the night 17 year-old Evie Maxie was found dead in a Pierre apartment. Assistant Attorney General Ernest Thompson says the alleged statements set the basis for the Aggravated Assault charge against Shangreaux. He added without the statements the jury would be in a vacuum. Shangreaux’s attorney Clint Sargent says his client’s alleged statements were not threats but more less bragging about how tough he was to the women. An alleged statement of Shangreaux having stabbed and cut people in the past was permitted in by Klinger along with a statement about getting into fights on the reservation, however gang references were ordered remove. Klinger also permitted the electronic monitoring of Shangreaux during is upcoming trial.
