The Pierre Governors will be heading to Rapid City in 6 days on the back of a clutch win over the Harrisburg Tigers on Friday night with a 46-39 win.
Pierre started off on a heater with a 15-3 lead through the end of the first quarter. Grace Richter and Lennix Dupris took over with 13 total points in the first with several steals generated by the Govs defense. It was one of the most dominant quarters Pierre played all season, but that by itself was not enough to get Pierre the win. In the second, Harrisburg began storming back and outscored Pierre 12-3 with their own brand of dominant defense and the disruption of the Governors offense. Harrisburg was led by Logan Durnil who had two huge triples in the first half to put her team in position going into the locker room. The second half picked up where the first left off as the Tigers were able to claw their way back to a momentary lead early. However, with their backs to the wall, the Governors refused to give in, and found their way back to the top with a consistent stretch toward the end of the quarter. Dupris began to take over breakaway layups as Harrisburg had no answer on defense. Dupris kept her hot streak alive in the fourth and was joined by Emery Larson, hitting two big threes to give Pierre just enough distance to wrap up the game.
Dupris surpassed 1,000 career points on her way to a 22 point night. Richter ended up with 11 points on the night and forced numerous steals. Pierre now looks ahead to Thursday next week as they get ready to face off with the Brandon Valley Lynx. Game time is at 7:00 Central Time in Rapid City. Dylan Simmons will have the call on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
