PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Box Elder man is facing charges in Hughes County following an alleged road rage incident in Pierre. Pierre Police Detective Sergeant Cole Martin says officers were called Wednesday night around 6:30 pm to the 900 block of West Sioux Avenue for a reported assault. An investigation determined 41 year-old John E. Gines of Box Elder became upset at another driver that had cut Gines off in traffic. Martin says, according to the investigation, Gines forced the other vehicle to stop and confronted the driver. During that confrontation, Gines is accused of grabbing the driver by the neck and threatening that individual. The victim is identified by police as a 67 year-old Fort Pierre man. The victim sustained minor injuries. Martin says Gines and the victim had no previous relation. Officers determined Gines had consumed alcohol and was impaired. He was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges of Simple Assault and First Offense Driving While Intoxicated.
