The Pierre Governor boys basketball team would come up just nine points short of the number two team in the state on Friday on the road as the Mitchell Kernels would hold on to win 53-44.
The Governors were within just a point heading into the fourth, but an eight point an advantage and key buckets propelled the Kernels to the tight AA win. Gavin Hinker and Colton Smith had 15 and 14 points respectively to lead the Kernels who improve to 16-2 on the season. Pierre drops to 6-11 on the year and were led by Dawson Getz’s 13 points with three triples. Eladio Simental had 10 as the two in double figures for the Governors.
Pierre will close the season this week with a three game week and two being on the road. First is Tuesday’s game against Jefferson Cavaliers. Tip off of the game is at 7:00 with coverage on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Dylan Simmons on the call.
