The Oahe Capitals would shutout the Watertown Lakers and control the tiebreaker with a 2-0 win Friday night at the Expo Center on senior night.
The game was scoreless through two periods and both goalies, Jaxon Jungwirth for the Caps and Kohl Nygaard for the Lakers were outstanding. It would take a 5-on-3 power play for either team to crack through as Oahe’s Ayden Behm would get a seeing eye shot from the blue line to get through traffic and in to give the Caps the 1-0 lead with six minutes remaining in the third. Keegan Kitts would add an empty net power play goal in the final minutes of the game and Jungwirth finished with a 20 save shutout, his second of the season as Oahe now trails the Lakers by a single point in the standings.
Oahe will at minimum need an overtime game and the Lakers to not win the rest of the season. Oahe faces Brookings in the final home game this evening. It’s a boys and girls doubleheader with it also being girls senior night. The boys play at 4:30 and the girls game will follow on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
