The Pierre Governor basketball teams will both be in action tonight as the boys will have it’s Senior Night while the girls will once again be traveling, weather pending.
The Governor girls are in a big matchup with a team who just fell below them in the standings. Pierre has moved up to seventh place in the AA standings. The Govs are 8-6 while the Bobcats have lost back-to-back games and are 9-7. Brookings was ahead of the Governors heading into last Tuesday’s game, but have since fallen to 10th place. Overall the Bobcats have lost three of four and finish the season with three of the four teams above .500. The Govs are going to settle into a three game week in each of the last two weeks of the season. Pierre will play Tuesday, Friday and Saturday both this week and to close the season next week. The Govs will have to manage the fatigue factor while picking up wins to ensure a home game in the SoDak 16 in just two weeks.
The Governor boys will be hosting senior night tonight taking on the winless Bobcats. Pierre at 5-10 face the 0-16 Bobcats in need of a win to start the final two weeks of the season. While getting a SoDak 16 home game might be nearly out of reach for the Govs, climbing the standings for a more favorable matchup is what is for grabs. As expected, the Bobcats are the lowest scoring team in the state at just 45.6 points per game. The Govs are averaging 56.3 points a game. Tonight the Govs will honor Cayden Morris, Sawyer Sonnenschein, Eladio Simental, Dawson Getz, Luke Olson and Bennett Swartos on Senior Night.
Coverage of both games will be on the air as the boys will play on KCCR with Dylan Simmons on the call and the girls on Capital City Rock with Jon Winkler on the call. Both games will be on YouTube at KCCR Sports tipping off at 7:00, weather pending.
