Gavin Barber, a senior for the Sully Buttes Chargers and an instrumental piece in the state championship win this year, has signed to continue his football career at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
Barber was an All-State linebacker this year for the Chargers and was a dynamic running back for Sully Buttes over the last couple of years. Even dealing with an injury that sidelined him for the stretch run of the regular season, he was playmaker for the Chargers in which the state took notice. Northwestern also took notice and want him to play for their team next year. Barber credits one of his coaches, Morris Hofer, who played for Northwestern and won a National Championship with them in 2022. Barber says he was a big help in connections and answering questions…
Barber finished the state championship with four total touchdowns running the ball eight times for 42 yards and catching seven passes for 73 yards helping lead the Chargers to their first state title since 1989. Barber says going out on top at Sully Buttes means a lot to him…
But with the injury that sidelined him, Barber says he still has the drive to continue playing football and to make up some lost time being off the field…
And the prominence Northwestern has in NAIA football is another reason for Barber to want to play for the Red Raiders…
Barber plans to study Ag Business at Northwestern.
