Sully Buttes Boys Down Stanley County as Time Expires

In a back-and-forth slugfest, at breakneck speed, the Sully Buttes Chargers hit a three point shot with four seconds left to break a tie, and held on to win 43-40 over Stanley County Tuesday night in Onida.

The Chargers led 10-5 after the first quarter, and 21-17 at the half, but the Buffs outscored Sully Buttes 13-8 in the third quarter to take a 30-29 lead heading into the fourth. Three pointers by Easton Moore, Jett Yackley and for the win Teghan Westpahl helped propel the Chargers to outscore Stanley County 14-10 to seal the victory.

The Chargers were led in scoring once again by Wesley Wittler who finished with a game high 14 points.  Not to be outdone Stanley County’s Kaden Montana controlled the Buffs offense, and finished with 13 points while Paxton Deal was right behind with 12 before fouling out in the fourth.

The victory pushes Sully Buttes record to 7-3 while Stanley County falls to 10-3 on the season. Both teams were missing starting players due to illness.

The Chargers have two more games this week with Hitchcock Tulare coming to Onida for a girls and boys doubleheader Thursday, and the Warner Monarchs for another doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The game weary Buffs, who just endured seven games in 12 days have a Thursday contest at home against Crow Creek with a Saturday matchup against Iowa powerhouse Unity Christian Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon.
