Governors Fall in Overtime to Washington

The Pierre Governors Boys Basketball team gave it all they had Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell short to the Washington Warriors at Home in one of the best games of the year by a score of 77-73 in overtime.

This game was a rematch of last year’s State Tournament game between the two, and it certainly lived up to that kind of billing. Washington was led in the first half by Tommy Hoffman who lit up the Governors defense on his way to a 21 point performance. He was also helped along by Lucas Johnson who ended up with 19 points, mostly inside the post.

Not to be outdone, Pierre also had two sensational scorers of their own. The multi-sport athlete Luke Olson crushed the Warriors defense on his way to 27 points. Dawson Getz also emerged as a sharpshooter in the 2nd half for a 20 point performance in his own right. Pierre would hold the lead going into the final seconds of regulation, but were stunned by a Ben Sprecher buzzer beater that sent the game into overtime. There, Pierre ran out of gas as Hoffman and Johnson led the way to a Warriors win.

Washington moves to 5-2 on the season while Pierre falls to 2-4, but with a lot of hope for the future. The Governors’ next challenge will be against the (4-3) Tea Area Titans this Tuesday night.
