Pierre City Officials Begin Process To Review Essential Air Service Bids

PIERRE, (KCCR) — With three regional airlines competing for Pierre’s next Essential Air Service contract, its now in the city’s court to review those options to make a recommendation to the U-S Department of Transportation. A recommendation by the city is the only real input Pierre can have in the process. Mayor Steve Harding says the city has had conversations with two of the airlines before bids were released last week…

SkyWest, Denver Air Connection and Air Wisconsin have made bids for Pierre and Watertown. SkyWest is asking for the lowest subsidy, but Harding says the city looks at more than that…

The E-A-S process is a public one and city officials encourage public comments on the official U-S D-O-T docket…

The deadline for the city to submit a recommendation is February 7th. Three public comments have been submitted to the federal docket and a link to that docket is posted with this story at kccrradio.com.
