CHAMBERLAIN, (KCCR) — Starting Monday, the South Dakota Department of Transportation will be closing the buildings at the Chamberlain rest area on Interstate-90. The restrooms and facility will be remodeled during a scheduled project. While the building will be closed, east and westbound traffic on the interstate will still be able to pull off I-90 to visit the Dignity stature or to take a break from travel. Truck parking areas will still remain open and the exits off the interstate will remain open. Travelers are encouraged to plan for alternative restroom stops during the remodeling, which is expected to be completed in mid-to-late April. The work is projected to be completed by Wednesday, April 23rd. The 323-thousand , 700-dollar project was awarded to Willow Lake, South Dakota contractor Tellinghuisen Construction. The closest interstate rest areas to Chamberlain are White Lake, 37 miles to the east and Vivian, 45 miles to the west. Restrooms are also available in local businesses in Chamberlain and Oacoma.
