The Oahe Capitals boys and girls varsity teams home openers were a success on Friday night with the girls dominating to an 8-0 shutout win and the boys rolling to an 8-2 victory over the Sioux Center Storm.
The girls would get going first as Aubrey Stewart would tip in a pass Kallee Behm and Dakota McEntaffer before Brylee Kafka would make it 2-0 after the first period. After Emily Nemec scored an unassisted goal, Kafka would score the next three straight to make it 6-0 and run time would begin as the Caps had four goals in the first six minutes of the second. The Capitals cruised with another Kafka goal and McEntaffer scoring the third. Mallory Lehrkamp finished with three assists. Sophia Peschong made 14 saves for her second shutout of the season.
In the boys game, the Caps wasted no time scoring the first goals of the game as Keegan Kitts would score just a minute 16 seconds into the first. Kitts would finish a hat trick in the first period as Bridger Babcock also scored and Oahe was off and running with a 4-0 lead. Landry Van Roekel would get his first ever varsity goal in the second as Dylan Dodson scored twice and the Caps led 7-1 after two period and moved into run time for the third. Dodson completed the hat trick in the third. Tryton Parmely had two assists for the Caps. Jaxon Jungwirth wasn’t test much, but made eight saves on 10 shots in net for Oahe.
Both teams will play again on Saturday as the Cap girls will play at 1:15 and the boys at 6:45. Coverage will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
