Charger Girls Start Strong, Hold on for Road Victory over North Central

The Sully Buttes Charger girls came out of the gate fast, and kept the pace up until the North Central Thunder found their game, Friday night in Bowdle. The result was a 53-50 Charger victory to pick up their first win of the young season.

Sully Buttes led 20-8 after the first, thanks to a strong start by senior Payge Bakker, who tallied 12 points in the quarter. Sully Buttes kept it up, as the Chargers led 33-19 at the half and 49-30 after the third quarter.

Then the Thunder came alive offensively, and outscored Sully Buttes 20-4 in the final stanza, but had too big of a hole to dig out from.

Bakker led all scorers finishing with 26 points, while junior Scottlynn Kinney added 10 for the 1-1 Chargers.

North Central was led in scoring by juniors Amree Vander Vorsts’ 18 points and Ella Batie added 15 for the 1-1 Thunder.

North Central plays at McIntosh Saturday while Sully Buttes stays on the road Tuesday for a girls/boys doubleheader in Presho against the Lyman Raiders. The JV squads open play that afternoon at 4PM, with the varsity girls tipping off at 6:15, and the Charger boys game will follow. This will be the season opener for the Sully Buttes boys, while Lyman opens against Potter County in Gettysburg Saturday, December 14th.
