PIERRE, (KCCR) — There was something noticeably vacant from last week’s Parade of Lights in Pierre…fire trucks. Fire trucks are a staple of any parade but the volunteers captaining those ships were honoring their own at the Ramkota as the Pierre Volunteer Fire Department held their annual awards night one week ago. Public Safety Commissioner Vona Johnson says three firefighters in particular stood out among their colleagues…
The department also honored three civilian; Harrold, Andrik and Therryn Blackhorse, for heroic actions during a September structure fire. The three noticed smoke coming from a building while driving. They pulled over and rescued an individual from the building and put water on the fire prior to firefighters arrival.
