Stanley County Hosts Miller in First Home Game, Doubleheader

The Stanley County basketball teams will be at home for the first time in the 2024-25 season as the Miller Rustlers will come to Fort Pierre for a boys and girls doubleheader.

Of the four teams only the Lady Buffs have played a game so far this season. Stanley County beat Chamberlain on the road 36-20 led by Camryn Norman and Breckyn Heubner. The challenge will get tougher tonight against a Miller squad who went 15-8 last season. The team from last year did not lose a single player to graduation. Everybody returns to the team who went to the SoDak 16 last season. Aleah Schlechter and Morgan Kolda are still the only two seniors for the Rustlers this season.

Both boys teams will begin the season tonight. Last year, the Buffs and Rustlers had a shootout with Stanley County winning 73-69 in Miller. The Rustlers graduated three last season and have Gentry Harrell and Isaac McKinstry as the two seniors this year.

For Stanley County, only Broch Zeeb graduated from last year’s team. Everyone else will return including seniors Kelby Olson, Ethan Leafgreen, Blaize Frost, Kaden Montana, Austin Boxley, Wyatt Mortenson and Noah Baldwin. Stanley County finished at 14-8 increasing its win total by 11 from the previous year. Joey Fischer, head coach of the Buffaloes heading into his second year as the head man, says they are excited for this season…

Fischer says a big key is to play Stanley County style basketball…

The girls will play first at 6:30 with the boys game to follow at the Parkview Auditorium in Fort Pierre.
