The Sully Buttes Chargers girls basketball team will open the season tonight at home against a Region 6B opponent, taking on the Ipswich Tigers.
The Chargers finished at 11-10 last year dropping its quarterfinal game to Potter County. The Chargers graduated two seniors from last year’s team as Stevie Wittler and Natalie Miles both graduated. Wittler signed and is at Northwestern to play college basketball. The Chargers will have four seniors this year as Payge Bakker, Sheridan Voorhees, Olivia Olson and Annaleise Van Zee will lead this year’s team.
Ipswich comes in after at 5-17 season last year. The Tigers lost in the quarterfinals last year to Lyman, but will bring everybody back to this year’s squad. Reaghan Bowers and Kayln Onken are the only seniors for Ipswich with everyone else juniors or younger. Last year the Chargers would get a 65-30 win to open up the year. It will still be a tough test to start the season tonight.
Coverage tonight will be on Country 95.3 and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports starting around 7:15 with DT Meyer, the voice of the Sully Buttes Chargers on the call.
