Wrestle-Offs Show Promise for Pierre Wrestling Teams

Tuesday evening, 57 matches would take place for the Pierre Governor wrestling teams as they would hold the annual wrestle-offs to officially begin the season.

The Governor boys would have 32 total matches which included some exhibition matches between guys in different weight classes along with some competitive matches to help determine who would get the weight class for the varsity spot. Shawn Lewis, head coach of the Governor boys team says he saw a lot of good things…

Lewis says all the matches were competitive, especially those in their own weight classes…

The Governor boys start the season in Mandan next weekend and Lewis says a challenge lies ahead in more than one way…

On the girls side, there were a total of 25 matches which pitted new girls against new girls and the veterans and some of the top in the state against each other. Matt Thorson, head coach of the girls wrestling team says there was a lot of good to come out of the night…

Thorson says it’s a luxury to have so many great wrestlers back to have in the wrestling room day in and day out…

The Governor girls start its season in Watertown this year and Thorson says it’s a good measuring stick for the team…

The Governors are set to have their opening tournaments on over the weekend of December 6-7.
