The Sully Buttes Chargers will look to avenge its only loss of the season and do so on the biggest stage of the season, at the 9B state championship today against Faulkton Area.
The two teams played back on September 27 with the Trojans picking up a 28-8 win in Onida. It was obviously the lowest scoring game of the season for the Chargers and the only time they were held under 34 points in a game. Faulkton Area is at 9-2 with its two losses to Warner and Leola/Frederick in back-to-back weeks prior to beat the Chargers and starting a seven game winning streak. Faulkton beat Sunshine Bible 44-0, Colman-Egan 28-20 and Dell Rapids St. Mary 48-22 to reach the 9B state title game for the second straight year. The Trojans lost 32-30 last year to Avon in the championship. This is the first title game for the Chargers since 2018 when Sully Buttes lost 48-40 to Colome in overtime. Tom Moore, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers says not much has changed for Faulkton since the week five matchup…
This will be the first time for every one of the Chargers to be playing in the Dome and Moore says even if you treat it like any other game, there will be the extra excitement building up to game time…
Moore says they have to be balanced today to get the 9B championship…
