The Sully Buttes Charger volleyball team came out strong-stumbled-and still came away with a three set sweep of the Wakpala Lady Hunkpapa 25-8, 25-18 and 25-12 Monday night in Onida.
The Chargers had good spurts of solid play, but followed those up with unforced errors to keep Wakpala close with gifted points. The Chargers were led by seniors Payge Bakker and Olivia Olson in kills and Bakker, along with Cateri Yellow Hawk and Ally Buhler pitched in with service aces.
Wakpala were short of players, but battled hard with Danica Demarrias and Jayla Plenty Chief providing senior leadership on the floor. Wakpala ends the season at 8-21, while Sully Buttes ups its mark to 4-23.
Next up for Sully Buttes is a road trip tonight to face top seeded Ipswich, with the Tigers boasting a 20-8 record. The Chargers and Tigers faced each other September 10th with Ipswich getting a three set sweep of Sully Buttes.
The other matchup in the upper Region 6B bracket pits Faulkton Area hosting North Central, while the lower bracket has second seed Herried Selby Area hosting Tiospaye Topa who beat Sunshine Bible Academy. The other matchup features third seed Potter County hosting sixth seeded Highmore-Harrold in Gettysburg. All matches are slated for a 7PM start tonight.
