PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a Pierre residence. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says officers were called Tuesday morning around 9:50 am to the 400 block of South Robert Street for a report of a subject who had broken into a residence. During the investigation, the subject was identified by police as 53 year-old Shawn Sporrer of Pierre. According to Pelle, the investigation determined the female resident in the apartment that was broken into confronted Sporrer and tried to get him to leave the residence. During the victim’s attempt to get Sporrer out, he assaulted the woman. After getting Sporrer out the victim called police. Officers discovered Sporrer a few blocks away and took him into custody on charges of 2nd Degree Burglary and Simple Assault. The was then taken to the Hughes County Jail. Pelle did not indicate the extent of any injuries to the woman in the apartment who was assaulted in the incident.
