A potent ground attack and smothering defense was the ticket for the Sully Buttes Charger football team, as they downed the Arlington Cardinals 54-0 in a game that was called by the mercy rule.
The rushing attack was led by returning senior Gavin Barber, who ran for 103 yards on five carries. Kadyn Westergren added 71 on the ground on eight attempts, and QB Wesley Wittler rushed for 55, a total of 248 yards rushing with 132 yards through the air, for a game total of 380 offensive yards.
Meanwhile, the Charger defense bottled up the Arlington rushing attack holding the Cardinals to 70 yards of offense all on the ground.
The 8-1 Chargers will travel next Thursday to Corsica, to take on Corsica-Stickney, a 38-6 winner over Herreid Selby Area. The matchup will feature the fourth and fifth seeds in Class 9B. Arlington finishes the year at 4-5.
