Saturday is the state cross country runs for all three classes at the Hart Ranch in Rapid City as the Pierre Governors, Stanley County Buffaloes, Miller Rustlers, Highmore-Harrold Pirates and Jones County Coyotes will be participating.
The Governors will have their team there to compete as Jacob Mason and Ian Rounds on the boys side and Mason Berg for the girls, will be competing for the final time at the state cross country meet. Caleb Morris, who is averaging a 16 minute finish is the fastest Governor boy and is rated 11th coming into the AA race. Emery Larson is the fourth highest girl competing at AA with an average time of just 48 seconds behind the top runner.
In Class A, the Miller Rustlers will be sending their entire team on the girls side as senior Madeline Nye leads the team while Gabby Werdel is the lone junior. Miller has three seventh graders on the varsity squad. Senior Kaysen Magee will be the lone runner for Stanley County while Senior Spencer Sargent will run on the boys side for the Buffaloes. Pierce Baumberger and Isaiah Gortmaker will be the two Rustler boys runner in Class A.
In Class B, Highmore-Harrold will have five boys running with Brooks McPeak, a freshman having the best time of any Pirate while senior Aiden Ferens will run for the final time. Senior Adrik Schoon will finish his cross country career for the Jones County Coyotes as the lone boys runner. On the girls side, freshman BreAna Aske and eighth grader Aubrey Tucker will represent Jones County while junior Autumn Fallis and sophomore Jaylynn Knox will run for Highmore-Harrold.
