The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be in action this afternoon as they face the Mitchell Kernels in a girls and boys doubleheader for its homecoming games.
The two teams will play earlier than normal with more festivities happening tonight. The Governor girls will play first at 2:00 against the Kernels who are struggling after the graduation of Mia Mullenmeister, the prolific scorer for the Kernels. Mitchell is at 4-6, and outside of a 10-0 win over Huron, Mitchell has failed to score two goals in all but one of the other nine games.
As both the Governor boys and girls teams are 7-3-1, the boys will be looking for a win over the Kernels who are 4-5-2, but did beat Brandon Valley 1-0 last time out. Mitchell had been 0-2-2 in its last four contests prior to the win. The Kernels lost 5-3 to Yankton last Thursday while the Governors just beat Yankton 1-0 on Tuesday.
Kickoff of the girls game is at 2:00 with the boys game to follow at 4:00 at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
