Governors Shutout in Low Scoring Loss to Brookings

Two interceptions returned for a touchdown late in each half, would doom the Pierre Governors in a 13-0 loss to the Brookings Bobcats on Friday night at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Both teams failed to score an offensive touchdown and both teams failed to have 100 yards of offense in either half. But it would be Jay Harris intercepting a pass in the final minute of the second quarter and returning it 35 yards for a touchdown. The snap on the extra point was bobbled and it would 6-0 at the break. Pierre had some sustained success with Carter Merril running the ball for 51 yards on 11 carries, but it would be four second half turnovers, including a fumble and three interceptions, with the final pick going for 43 yards back to the house by Gabriel Stern and the Bobcat defense scored both touchdowns while also pitching its fourth straight shutout defensively with only a pick six as the only blemish against the Bobcats.

Pierre drops to 2-2 on the season and have lost back-to-back games for the first time since October of 2017. Brookings improves to 4-0. The Governors will get Yankton at home for the homecoming game on Friday. Coverage will start at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
