PIERRE, (KCCR) — South Dakota counties are sharing three-million dollars from the Office of Indigent Legal Services to help cover court-appointed attorney costs. Hughes County is getting just over 97-thousand dollars. However, the county had 819-thousand dollars in court-appointed attorney and public defender costs in fiscal year 2024. Stanley County will see 11-thousand, 800 dollars to help cover 99-thousand 600 dollars in costs. Sully County had 17-thousand, 500 dollars in indigent defense expenditures of which 68-hundred was for abused and neglected children cases. It’s getting just over two-thousand dollars to defray those costs. Brule County is getting over 20-thousand dollars. It spent in fiscal year 2024 172-thousand 600 dollars. Abuse and neglect cases made of 27-thousand dollars of that. Neighboring Buffalo County meanwhile had 21-thousand dollars in fees and is getting just under 25-hundred. Dewey County had 81-hundred dollars in costs and is getting 960-dollars. Haakon County gets 26-hundred to help cover 22-thousand in costs. Hand County had 18-thousand in costs and is getting 21-hundred in return. A full list of area counties is posted below:
