Man Killed In Rear-End Crash In Haakon County Wednesday Morning

BRIDGER, (KCCR) — A 26 year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in a two vehicle crash in Haakon County. According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol the crash happened Wednesday morning around 12:45 am on South Dakota Highway 34 at mile marker 128, approximately 34 miles northwest of Philip and approximately seven miles south of the Cheyenne River crossing at Bridger. The preliminary crash investigation shows the driver of a 2001 Freightliner was parked in the travel lane with it’s emergency flashers activated at the time of the crash. The driver of a second semi, a 1996 Freightliner was traveling in the same direction as the 2001 and rear-ended the first Freightliner. The driver of the stopped truck was moving about the cabin of his vehicle and suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. The driver that struck the parked truck died from his injuries. A passenger in the stopped truck was outside of the cab at the time and not injured. The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family.
