Fort Pierre Woman Sentenced On Federal Meth Distribution Charge

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Pierre woman has been sentenced to federal prison for trying to distribute methamphetamine in central South Dakota. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 62 year-old Carla Reed was sentenced Monday by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to just over four-and-a-half years in federal custody. That prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release and a one-thousand dollar fine. Reed was indicted by a federal grand jury on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance in July of 2023. She pleaded guilty this past June. Ramsdell says Reed would distribute meth in the Fort Pierre area by traveling to the Denver, Colorado area to pick up large quantities of the drug and bring it back to Fort Pierre. Ramsdell says Reed was distributing the meth from her home. Reed was pulled over by law enforcement on February 18th of 2023 where offices seized 130 grams of pure methamphetamine as Reed was returning from a pick-up trip to Denver. Reed was placed in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving her sentence.
