The Pierre Governor soccer teams would get another two big wins on Saturday this time against Spearfish as the Governor girls would start the day with a 6-1 win and the boys would close the day with a 2-1 win.
In the girls contest, Natalie Flottmeyer would get the Govs on the board first with its only goal in the first half a free kick as she found herself wide open against the goalkeeper. The Govs would score five goals in the second half as Flottmeyer would get her second to make it 2-0 before the Spartans pulled within one. Devyn Van Roekel would make it 3-1 and then the Govs would add three more with Van Roekel getting her second, Jasmine Jost making it 5-1 and Katelyn Taylor adding the final goal. Pierre improves to 6-1 on the season.
In the boys contest, the Governors would get the first goal of the game as Jacoby LaRoche would send Steven Blanchette free to go one-on-one with goalie and an easy goal led the Govs to a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t last long as the Spartans would tie the game minutes later. But LaRoche would net the game winner late in the first half to make it 2-1. The Governor defense clamped down and held the Spartans off the board to secure the win and improve to 4-2-1 on the year.
Pierre will travel to Harrisburg next as the Governor boys will play the Tigers first at 5:00 and then the Governor girls will face the undefeated Harrisburg Tigers at 7:00.
