Soccer Finishes Busy Three Day Stretch with Wins on Saturday

The Pierre Governor soccer teams would come away with two wins over the weekend in Rapid City as the boys would go 1-0-1 and the girls finished at 1-1.

On Friday night, the Governor girls would drop the first game of the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the Raiders. Stevens would get two goals in the first half before going 1-1 in the second half with the Governors to hold on to improve to 5-0 on the season. It was the first loss of the season for the Governor girls team who had been solid defensively through the first three games of the year. Then on Saturday, the Governor girls would pick a 3-1 win to improve the record to 4-1 as the Governors would control the game throughout scoring early on in the first half and adding on from there.

The Governor boys couldn’t crack through Friday night against Stevens, but defensively held their own for a 0-0 tie. While Pierre would have loved to score, they tie a team who is 4-0-1 and has only given up just one goal so far this season and was averaging nearly five goals a game heading into Friday night. Then Saturday, the Govs would get a shutout, the second for goalie Jacob Leiferman as he didn’t allow a shot past him all weekend. Alex Oedekoven would get the goal for the Govs in the win. Pierre is now 3-1-1 on the season.

The Governors have Sunday and Monday off before traveling to Watertown for a boys and girls doubleheader. The boys will play first at 4:00 with the girls to follow at 6:00.
