The Pierre Governor volleyball team didn’t have the answer to a top five team in the Watertown Arrows on Tuesday to begin the season. The Arrows would get the win in Pierre in straight sets 25-11, 25-14 and 25-16.
Watertown had 41 kills to the Governors 17 and only trailed by a single point two different times early in the third set. The Arrows were led in scoring by Ana Hirtz and Madisyn Grimsrud who each had the match high nine kills. Emery Thury would add eight and Siri Bach and Reece Munger each had six. The Governors had five kills from Kiera Gossman and Jayce Bauer to lead the team while Ely Broers, Sloane Waldron and Grace Hanten each had an ace. Pierre overall had the 17 kills but finished with 16 hitting errors.
The Governors get the early test and will now have back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday as the Rapid City Stevens Raiders will be in town on Friday and Rapid City Central on Saturday.
