Governors Begin Season Hosting Watertown

The Pierre Governor volleyball team begins the new season hosting the Watertown Arrows tonight to start a busy week at home, hosting three matches.

The Governors are coming off a season in which they nearly made the state tournament, coming up just short in the SoDak 16. Now, the Governors will have a new coach at the helm as Carrie Wheelhouse takes over and will be looking for the first win tonight out of the gates against a state tournament team from last year in the Arrows. The Arrows finished in fifth place at the state tournament with a 27-7 record. The Arrows graduated seven seniors as they will have some new faces and roles to fill in to start the year. It could be a feeling out process for both teams in the opening set as the Govs will look for the jump start at home. Pierre will also host Rapid City Stevens and Central on Friday and Saturday at home with a busy week opening the year.

Coverage tonight begins at 6:30 with first serve at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
