Senior running back Gavin Barber only touched the ball six times, but it was enough for 156 yards and five touchdowns as the Sully Buttes Chargers downed the Northwestern Wildcats 46-6 Friday night in Mellette.
The Chargers capitalized on turnovers and excellent field position thanks to a defense that took anything and everything away from Northwestern’s offensive attack.
The score at halftime was 46-0 Sully Buttes, and in the entirety of the second half the Chargers pulled their starters to give backups some much needed varsity field time against the Wildcats who had trouble all night finding offensive rhythm.
Sully Buttes finished the night with 251 yards of offense while Northwestern ended with 53 total yards.
The 1-0 Chargers will host the Burke Cougars, who were 61-12 winners over Colome, for homecoming week next Friday night, while the 0-1 Wildcats travel to Herreid to face the Herreid Selby Area Wolverines-who knocked off Faith in Selby by the score of 46-8.
