Chargers Open Season on the Road Facing Winless Northwestern

The Sully Buttes Chargers football team will get the season underway tonight as the Chargers will take on the Northwestern Wildcats in Mellete.

The Chargers finished the 2023 season at 3-6 falling in the first round of the playoffs to Kadoka Area 38-22, but have plenty of experience returning with just one graduated senior from last year’s team. Tonight, the Chargers face the Wildcats who did not pick up a win last year. At 0-8, Northwestern had five games end by the 50 point mercy rule and scored just 16 points all season with those 16 coming in only two games. Northwestern drops from Class 9A to 9B for the season. Tom Moore, head coach of the Sully Buttes Chargers says they’re not so much concerned about Northwestern, but more about themselves…

Moore says with the experience returning, it’s a lot easier heading into the first game cleaning up things and able to adjust midgame…

Moore says, they need to be able to control the running game from the jump tonight…

Kickoff from Mellete is scheduled for 7:00 tonight. Coverage will start around 6:35 on Country 95.3, pierrecountry.com and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports with DT Meyer, the Hall of Fame voice of the Chargers, will have the call.
