Soccer Splits First Game against Aberdeen Central, Brookings Match Postponed

The Pierre Governor girls soccer team would pick up a 3-1 win over Aberdeen Central Friday evening while the boys would fall 2-1 late. Then Saturday’s games against Brookings was postponed early Saturday.

Lexie Hillmer would score early on in the game to the get the Governors on the board first off the corner kick which was placed around a mass of humanity, but Hillmer was able to tuck it through and find the back of the net. Gracelyn Taylor would make it 2-0 with a bomb from around 30 yards. In the second half, Jasimine Jost would make it 3-0 off a nonchalant play from the Aberdeen Central goalie, as she would take the ball away and score.

Alex Oedekoven would score the Governors lone goal of the match on Friday as the Govs had back-to-back corners, and the second one was a success with a loft shot over the keepers outstretched arms to tie the game at one apiece. The game remained tied until the final minutes of the game and Aberdeen Central would get the go-ahead goal and hang on to narrowly escape with a win in the night cap.

Saturday’s game was not postponed due to weather, but was postponed. Makeup date is still to be determined. Brookings played in Spearfish Friday night, but did not come to Pierre on Saturday.

The Governors next contest is Tuesday when Roosevelt will be in town and as the girls will face the Roughriders first at 4:00 with the boys game to follow at 6:00 at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
