Sturgis Rally Traffic Down Over 17-Thousand From The Five-Year Average

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation has released final vehicle count numbers for this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that wrapped up it’s 84th run on Sunday. Overall, traffic counted by officials was down compared to the previous five-year average. A total of 470-thousand 987 vehicles were counted over the course of the rally. The previous five-year average was 488-thousand 720 which means traffic this year was down by 17-thousand 733 vehicle. Traffic was up from the five-year average on two days. Thursday August 8th vehicle counts were up one-point-one percent. On Saturday August 10th traffic counts were up by one-point-seven percent. The best day for traffic was Monday August 5th when 55-thousand 971 vehicles were counted. While the best day, it was down just over five-percent from the five year average. The biggest drop was on Sunday August 4th when 52-thousand 127 vehicles were counted, down 12-point-seven percent from the five year average. A full reporting including the greater Black Hills region will be released the week of August 19th.
