Bothun Wins Pod, Falls in Round of 16

Pierre Governor Nick Bothun would fall in the Round of 16 in the South Dakota Golf Association Match Play Tournament this weekend as he was the only Pierre member to make it through the pods.

Bothun would go 2-1 in Pod 16 over Thursday and Friday to advance to Saturday’s Round of 16. Bothun and Brookings’ Rockney Peck would both go 2-1, but Bothun beat Peck and owned the tiebreaker to advance.

Swayer Sonnenschein, Lincoln Houska and Aaron Olson, all from the Pierre area would be in the Pod 12 together, but it would be Sioux Falls’ Julean Michels to advance as both Michels and Sonnenschein would go 2-1, but Michels beating Sonnenschein for the tiebreaker. Houska would go 1-1-1 tying Aaron Olson would go 0-2-1.

Luke Olson of the Governors would finish at 1-0-2 tying both Mat Johnson of Gregory and Russel Pick of Mitchell. Pick would finish 2-0-1 to win the Pod and advance to the bracket play on Saturday.

Jennifer Stalley would go 1-2 in the senior women’s tournament. She would win her second match against Peg Even, but fall in her other two contests.
