Pierre Post 8 would earn a big split on Saturday in hot conditions at Hyde Stadium as the Eights would drop the first game 6-2 but win the second game 6-4.
Harrisburg Maroon would get a two run homer in the top of the first by Lincoln Brandt as Harrisburg would lead the entire way. A wild pitch would score the Eights first run in the bottom of the first, but Pierre would have just one hit through six innings. An RBI double from Griffin Schlapkohl in the top of the sixth and Brandt’s bases loaded walk would be Harrisburg’s only other RBI, but a couple of wild pitches would help get the lead to 5-1 after six and 6-1 heading into the seventh. JJ Bucholz would have an RBI single in the seventh to make it 6-2 and the Eights had the tying on up to the plate, but couldn’t cash in any more runs. Miles Doyle would be tagged with the loss going five and 2/3 innings allowing just six hits, four runs, three earned, on four walks and eight strikeouts.
In game two, Pierre would take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third on three unearned runs as Gunner Edson had the only RBI, a two out single to make it 3-0. A double play and a wild pitch would score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-2 and after Brandt’s second two run homer of the day, Harrisburg pulled within one at 5-4 in the top of the sixth, but Doyle would be hit with a pitch in the bottom of the sixth scoring a run to get the final score of 6-4 as Cooper Terwilliger would get a complete game win giving up four runs on four hits with four walks and had 11 strikeouts. Grayson Hunsley had two of the four hits for the Eights in the win.
Pierre is now at 7-25 on the season and 6-13 in South Dakota games. Pierre will travel to Sioux Falls West on Tuesday for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 3:00 with coverage starting at 2:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
