A 10 run bottom of the fifth would be all the runs Bismarck had in game one winning 10-5, before shutting out Pierre 8-0 in game two sweep Post 8 in Bismarck on Thursday.
The Eights would get an RBI single from Grayson Hunsley in the top of the fourth in game one and then Charlie Simpson would burn the center fielder clearing the bases giving the Eights a 4-0 lead at the end of the top of the fourth. JJ Bucholz would go three and 1/3 innings allowing just two hits and a walk with a strikeout, but because of pitch count and keeping him ready for the weekend games against Harrisburg Maroon, had to be removed from the game. In the bottom of the fifth, Bismarck would score all 10 of its runs on six hits including two hits and four RBIs from Michael Fagerland. Bismarck had just two hits in the other six innings. Nolan Petersen would rip a shot down the line for extra bases in the top of the seventh, but the left fielder Jace Groseclose would get injured trying to get a jump on the ball and Petersen would score on an inside the park home run to get the final tally.
In game two, Pierre had just three hits in total as Cooper Terwilliger and Sutton Sonnenschein would double and Hunsley added a third hit for the day, but it was the only three base runners besides a hit by pitch which was canceled by a double play. Gavin Lill went 2-4 with three RBIs as Bismarck scored four runs in the third with another two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Sonnenschein would go five innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Pierre is now 6-24 on the season and will have eight games remaining over four doubleheaders. First will be the final home games of the regular season as Harrisburg Maroon will be in town on Saturday. Coverage will start at 1:45 with first pitch at 2:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
