The South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association has announced for the first time, the boys and girls varsity tournaments will be played Thursday through Saturday with the 2025 boys state tournament to be in Watertown.
The new Ice Arena hosted the girls varsity state tournament this past season in what was just the third set of varsity games played at the time after Watertown hosted two boys varsity games to close the season. Watertown has the new premier arena in the state and after a successfully held tournament on the girls side, it was a no-brainer for the boys state tournament to be held in Watertown this next season. The girls tournament has yet to be announced. The girls tournament will be played March 6-8 and the boys tournament March 13-15.
Over the previous years the tournaments would all start on Friday and run through Sunday afternoon with the championships played in the late afternoon. Starting this season, the tournaments will begin on Thursday and close on Saturday with the idea of having an even bigger crowd for the championships on the Saturday night.
For the fifth straight year, Capital City Rock and Capital City Rock Sports on YouTube will broadcast all 22 games of the two tournaments. Jon Winkler and Jim Lloyd will bring all the action.
