After an hour long rain delay, Pierre Post 8 would split its doubleheader with Rapid City Post 320 on Monday with a 7-6 loss and 15-4 win, getting its first win of the season.
Pierre had the first two reach base in the top of the first, but were unable to score and did not get another hit until the sixth. The Stars would score first in the bottom of the first as Tegan Sayles would get an RBI double, his first of four RBIs in the game. Sutton Sonnenschein would tie the game with an RBI sacrifice fly in the third and pull Pierre within one with an RBI groundout in the fifth. Cooper Terwilliger would get the game tying hit in the sixth and JJ Bucholz would drive in the go-ahead run to make it 4-3 for the Eights. But a four run sixth for the Stars made it 7-4 and after Charlie Simpson and Terwilliger would drive in a run in the seventh, Pierre stranded the tying run on at third to end the ballgame. Miles Doyle would get a complete game loss giving eight hits, seven runs with fur walks and six strikeouts.
In game two, Pierre would take advantage of three first inning errors sending 10 guys to the plate and scoring five times as Simpson, Carter Scheifelbein and Dawson Getz would all drive in runs. Pierre would add a run in the second, three in the third, fourth in the fourth and two in the fifth to secure a 15-4 win as Sonnenschein would drive in another three runs to give him five RBIs for the day, while Miles Doyle would bring home two runs and Nolan Petersen would also add an RBI. Getz would finish going 2-3 with four RBis in the eights first win. Terwilliger would go all five innings allowing just two hits, two unearned runs with four walks and two strikeouts.
Pierre is now 1-7 on the season and 1-5 in South Dakota games. The Eights will head to Sioux Falls for the Dakota Classic playing in the Harrisburg Pool starting on Friday at 6:30 against Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
