Pierre Post 8 would be swept on Wednesday in a doubleheader against the Mandan Chiefs in a 10-0 first game loss and 6-5 second game loss.
In game one, Mandan would strike for four runs in the first and another three in the third and fifth innings to win a shortened first game. Mandan had two doubles and two triples as Dylan Gierke would drive in three runs. Cooper Terwilliger would get the only two hits for Pierre in the first game as Brayden Houlette would be tagged with the loss giving up nine runs on seven hits, eight earned with seven walks.
The bats started to come alive in game two as Pierre finished with 10 hits including six doubles, their first extra base hits of the season. George Stalley would drive in the game’s first run on a two out RBI double to give Post 8 its first lead of the season. Jamison Nelson would hit a solo shot to tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Mandan would hang a four spot in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead, but the Eights would battle back as Stalley would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 and with the bases loaded, Miles Doyle would clear it with a double to tie the game at 5-5. But a two out triple in the bottom of the sixth followed by an RBI double from McCoy Keller would give the Chiefs the lead back at 6-5 and a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh sealed the doubleheader sweep and first two wins of the season for Mandan.
Pierre drops to 0-6 on the season and will be off until Monday when they travel to face the Rapid City Post 320 Stars. Coverage will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
