Pierre Post 8 will be at home tonight for the first time this season as the Eights will host the Renner Royals in a doubleheader looking for its first wins of the season.
Pierre’s pitching did the job on Friday in Brookings, but the bats will be looking to be better today against the Royals, but it’s going to be another tough challenge. Renner is currently 6-1 and 3-0 against South Dakota opponents having shutout Yankton 1-0 on Sunday. Prior to its only loss, its last game to Norfolk 8-6, Renner had allowed just five runs in total with four shutout wins and another 5-1 win. Runs could be hard to come by against a Royal squad with a 1.67 ERA as a team.
However, while a small sample size of two games, the Eights team ERA is sub one at 0.51 and a WHIP at 1.10. Renner, though, is hitting .396 as a team in seven games. Pierre still should bring in a lot of confidence taking last year’s state runner up to the final outs in two run one ballgames on Friday and build on the confidence heading into the week.
Coverage will start at 4:45 with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
