Three Pierre Governors were selected to the All-State teams for the 2024 season as Jett Zabel and Nolan Petersen both made first team while Ridge Leimbach made second team All-State
The Governors finished the season at 13-11 on the season one win shy of making the state quarterfinals. Pierre was led by a handful of seniors, one being Zabel who was selected for the first team All-State. Zabel was second on the team in RBIs with 11 as he led the team in innings pitched and wins going 4-1 on the season. His ERA was miniscule 1.56 and WHIP at 1.31 which was only behind Leimbach with at least five innings pitched on the season. After Leimbach’s injury, Zabel was the ace of the staff and was one pitch away from a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Jefferson this season. Zabel allowed opposing hitters a .165 batting average.
Petersen would lead the team in batting average with .391 average for qualifying at bats. Petersen also led the team in on-base percentage and OPS for those who had more than five plate appearances with a .523 on-base percentage and .976 OPS. Petersen had the team high 25 hits and throughout the season was the most consistent hitter on the team. Petersen also tied for second in RBIs
Leimbach threw 16 innings before being injured requiring surgery and ending his season prematurely. At the time of his injury, he was 3-0 with 27 strikeouts to six walks with a 0.44 ERA and a WHIP of 0.94. Hitters only had a .164 batting average against. Leimbach was arguably the best pitcher in the state at the time of his injury. He was also hitting .364 at the plate six RBIs.
