The Pierre Governors were two outs away from sweeping the Yankton Bucks on Saturday, but a three run seventh gave Yankton a 4-3 win to even the series before winning the decisive game three 16-6 ending the Governor season.
Pierre jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second as Spencer Easland had an RBI single and Matthew Brewer an RBI double and the lead would stand until the bottom of the sixth when a two out error would allow the Bucks to score its first run of the game. Easland would give Pierre some insurance with his second RBI, a double with two outs in the top of the seventh. But a one out rally starting with back-to-back walks allowed the Bucks to pick up two singles scoring three runs and winning game two of the series sending it to a decisive game three. Miles Doyle threw five innings of shutout baseball giving up four hits on five walks and six strikeouts.
In the decisive game three Yankton would come out with a 6-1 lead at the end of the top of the fourth. But Pierre would battle back. The Govs took advantage of an error scoring a run to make it 6-2, Nolan Petersen would hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to make it 6-3 and Cade Kaiser would make it 6-4 with an RBI single. The Govs would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two run triple by Easland as he went 7-8 in the series and end the season going 12-15 in the final five games of the season. However, the Bucks would score 10 runs in the sixth and a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth would end the season for the Govs and the 11 seed Yankton Bucks would advance to face top seeded Harrisburg in the quarterfinals at the state tournament on Friday.
The Governors finish the season at 13-11.
