Tuesday morning at Riggs High School, Sydney Uhrig would make Pierre Governor girls wrestling history as the first girl to sign a National Letter Intent to wrestle in college at Grand View University.
Uhrig is a four time place winner dating back to the first year of women’s wrestling in South Dakota. She placed third in the 112 her freshman year and then third again in the 106 before getting second her junior year in the 106 and placing fifth in the 2024 tournament at 107. She’s the first girl to reach the 100 win mark in Governor girls wrestling history. Grandview is an NAIA school who placed fifth in the country at the second NAIA National Championships this past season. The Vikings had seven of the 11 wrestlers be All-Americans.
